ASCE Volunteer Impact with Community Engineering Corps

Multi-Discipline Technical

This session will earn 1.0 PDH

Abstract: Community Engineering Corps (CECorps) a program of ASCE in partnership with the American Water Works Association and Engineers Without Borders USA. The program brings technical professionals and students together to serve communities across the United States. These individuals volunteer their time and expertise to assist communities that do not have the resources to access engineering services. With a strong commitment to community-driven projects, our volunteers work alongside community members to design sustainable solutions to identified problems.

The session will include a panel of volunteers that have worked on CECorps projects. The volunteers will provide an overview of the engineering request, the community served, and the impact of the engineering services provided. ASCE conference participants and members will understand how they can volunteer their time and engineering skills to provide under-served communities across the US with the technical assistance they need. The session will include at least two examples from current CECorps infrastructure projects and highlight the relationship between the community partner and the project team as well as demonstrate project progress and lessons learned.

CECorps was formed primarily in response to this growing distress in rural and under-served communities across the US and is uniquely poised to provide pro-bono technical and engineering services to impacted communities.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn about the CECorps program and how it deploys volunteer engineers across the US.
  • Case studies provided by volunteers provide context on the volunteer experience.
  • Generate interest to volunteer or support this growing program.
