Changing Environmental Hazards, Updates to ASCE 7

Natural & Man-Made Disasters

The 2022 edition of the nationally-adopted, consensus-based ASCE/SEI 7 Minimum Design Loads and Associated Criteria for Buildings and Other Structures standard includes many updates to the design requirements for environmental hazards of tsunami, snow, rain, atmospheric ice, seismic and wind – and tornado, which is new in the 2022 edition!

This session will review the technical and use updates for the 2022 edition of the standard, including the free ASCE 7 Hazard Tool, as well as the topics being discussed for the 2028 edition of the standard including changing climate impacts, loads on temporary structures, wind serviceability, functional recovery, and embodied carbon.
