Water, Waste, and Environment in Mega City 2070

Future World Vision

Mega City 2070’s river system is an important resource and is vital to the overall ecosystem, yet it is fragile. The city closely monitors and protects the health of its most precious water asset. In many areas, the city has been reshaped to accommodate the natural flow of the river and impermeable surfaces are unsealed to allow for groundwater recharge. But Mega City has incredible levels of demand, and water is extracted actively through traditional pump systems, and also through engineered wetland areas that serve as both filtering retention ponds and flood mitigation zones. Mega City has also improved its wastewater processing using advances in machine learning and sorting various levels of waste starting at the building level, leading to less water loss overall. But how does it all come together?

Join this interactive session for an opening talk on water, waste, and environment in Mega City 2070, and exchange ideas and views on this critical aspect of the city.

Learning objectives

By attending this session, attendees will learn about:

  • Water, waste, and environment as discussed in ASCE’s Future World Vision: Mega City 2070 desktop platform.
  • Views of the speaker and those in attendance on the challenges and solutions to water and wastewater needs in cities of the future.
  • Ways to interact with the Mega City 2070 to join the in-platform conversation on water, waste, and environment.
