Andy Herrmann is now Partner Emeritus of Hardesty & Hanover Consulting Engineers. Throughout his 40 plus years with the firm, Andy was responsible for bridge studies, major bridge rehabilitations, analysis and ratings for fixed and movable bridges, biennial and in-depth bridge inspections, preliminary-to-final design on new fixed and movable bridges, construction support, and construction inspection for highway, railroad, and major transportation projects. His work on movable bridge projects covers various forms of bascule, vertical lift, and swing bridges and has made him a specialty expert on the subject of movable bridges. Andy is a Fellow of both SEI and ASCE and served as ASCE’s President for 2012 and Treasurer in 2009-2010. He has also served as SEI’s 2017 President, on their Board of Governors and has been past chair of SEI’s Bridge and Steel Bridge Committees. An advocate for improving our nation’s infrastructure, he has testified before the US Senate’s Environment and Public Works and the US House of Representative’s Transportation and Infrastructure Committees on the condition of our nation’s bridges and the need for infrastructure investment. He is frequently interviewed by the media, and has appeared on CBS’s “60 Minutes”, History Channel Documentaries, and HBO’s “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.” Registered as a Professional Engineer over 20 states, he graduated from Valparaiso University with a BSCE and from NYU POLY with a MSCE. Andrew was named one of ENR New York’s first Legacy Award Winner in 2014 and received ASCE’s President’s Medal in 2009.
